1st December

1951 - After coming close five times already during the season, Peter McKay finally gets his first hat-trick of the 1951/52 campaign, in a 3-1 win over Arbroath at Gayfield.

1956 - Maurice Milne Jimmy Forbes and Don Watt score as United beat Albion Rovers 7-0 at Tannadice. Johnny Coyle scores 4 goals in one match for the fourth time during his time at Tannadice, and also his 5th hat-trick in the space of a year.

1981 - United travel to Belgium for their 1st leg tie of the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup against Winterslag, with the match finishing 0-0 and United having home advantage in the next leg.

1984 - Paul Sturrock scores in a 1-1 draw with Rangers at Tannadice, in a match that sees Hamish McAlpine sent off and Paul Hegarty pulling on the keeper's jersey.

1999 - Billy Dodds scores from the penalty spot as United see off Motherwell at Tannadice in the quarter finals of the League Cup. Steven Thompson and Craig Easton also score as United win 3-2, but this turns out to be Dodds' last match before his transfer to Rangers. David Hannah is sent off for pushing the referee near the end of the match.

2nd December

1964 - The Scandinavian era begins at Tannadice as manager Jerry Kerr announces the signings of Finn Dossing from Vilborg and Swedish internationalist Orjan Persson from Orgryte.

1967 - Davie Wilson scores United's goal in a 1-1 draw with Celtic at Celtic Park.

1995 - United take revenge after the 1-0 defeat at Boghead earlier in the season by scoring 8 against Dumbarton at Tannadice. Craig Brewster grabs 4 of the goals with Grant Johnson, Owen Coyle and Gary McSwegan adding to a Dumbarton own goal.

3rd December

1971 - After 12 years in the Tannadice hot seat, the longest serving manager in Scotland, Jerry Kerr, stands down as manager of Dundee United. After taking up the position of General Manager, Kerr is replaced as first team manager by Dens Park coach Jim McLean.

1986 - Ian Redford and Jimmy Page score in a 2-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

1988 - David Beaumont finishes of a great move by Kevin Gallacher to give United a 1-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox.

1999 - After much speculation, United striker Billy Dodds signs for Rangers for 1.2 million.

4th December

1971 - Alan Gordon and Tommy Traynor score for United at Tynecastle but United lose out 3-2 to Hearts.

1996 - Manager Tommy McLean continues to rebuild the team and brings his old Motherwell keeper Sieb Dykstra to Tannadice for 100,000 from Queens Park Rangers.

5th December

1959 - United win their 3rd game in a row with an incredible 4-3 victory over Queen of the South at Tannadice. Jim Irvine scores his 2nd hat-trick of the season with Jim Stalker also scoring.

1964 - Manager Jerry Kerr's new signings Orjan Persson and Finn Dossing make their debuts against Hearts at Tynecastle, and both players link up for Dossing to score his first goal for the club, but Hearts win 3-1.

1987 - Ally McCoist gives Rangers the lead from the penalty spot, but just seconds later United are given a chance for a quick leveller as they too are awarded a penalty. Iain Ferguson unfortunately pulls his kick wide and United lose 1-0.

6th December

1980 - The biggest Dundee derby to date sees United take on 1st Division Dundee at Dens Park in the Final of the League Cup. Two goals from Paul Sturrock and another from Davie Dodds sees United win the trophy for the 2nd year running.

7th December

1957 - Johnny Coyle scores his 8th hat-trick in a United shirt as the team beat Morton 4-1 at Tannadice, with Jimmy Brown also scoring.

1974 - A high scoring match at Tannadice sees Jackie Copland and Paul Hegarty score in a 3-3 draw with Clyde's Burns scoring an own goal.

1993 - Paddy Connolly and Craig Brewster score as United beat Dundee 2-1 in a cold midweek match at Dens.

1996 - New signing Sieb Dykstra makes his United debut as United beat Kilmarnock 2-0 at Rugby Park, both goals scored by Kjell Olofsson.

2002 - Mark Wilson scores his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Hibs at Tannadice.

8th December

1973 - Andy Gray, George Fleming and Archie Knox score as United draw 3-3 with Celtic at Celtic Park.

1979 - United appear in their first ever League Cup Final as they face Aberdeen at Hamden. The game ends in a 0-0 draw, and the midweek replay is to be played at Dens Park.

1990 - A mix-up between Anton Rogan and Paddy Bonner gives Christian Dailly one of the easiest goals of his life as he puts United 1-0 up against Celtic at Tannadice. Darren Jackson puts United in front again after Celtic's equaliser and Mixu Paatelainen makes it 3-1.

9th December

1933 - For the 2nd time in a month, Willie Ouchterlonie scores 5 goals in one match, this time against Leith Athletic.

1978 - George Fleming, Dave Narey (pen) and Davie Dodds give United a 3-0 win over Rangers at Tannadice.

1981 - After drawing 0-0 in the 1st leg in Belgium, United beat Winterslag 5-0 at Tannadice with goals from Paul Hegarty, Dave Narey, Eamonn Bannon and two from Ralph Milne, to qualify for the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup for the first time.

1982 - In the 2nd leg of the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup, Paul Hegarty scores an early goal against Werder Bremen in Germany, and although Rudi Voller equalises, United survive a second half onslaught and go through to the quarter finals with a 3-2 aggregate score.

1984 - Paul Sturrock scorers his third goal for his country as Scotland thrash Yugoslavia 6-1 in a friendly match at Hampden. Davie Cooper, Graeme Souness, Kenny Dalglish, Mo Johnston and Charlie Nicholas are also on the scoresheet.

10th December

1960 - United's first game against Celtic since the clubs famous Scottish Cup victory 10 previously ends in a 1-1 draw at Parkhead, with Jim Irvine scoring for United.

1964 - Manager Jerry Kerr brings in his third Scandinavian import as Mogens Berg arrives from Danish club B1909.

1969 - Andy Rolland scores twice against Dunfermline at East End Park, but it's a Callaghan own goal that gives United the points in a 3-2 win.

1986 - An unrecognisable United team hold on for a 0-0 draw against Hadjuk Split in Yugoslavia and qualify for the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup after an aggregate score of 2-0.

1988 - Hamish French scores the first in an impressive 4-1 win over Hibs at Tannadice, with Billy McKinlay and Kevin Gallacher adding to a Gordon Hunter own goal.

1996 - Ex-United defender Richard Gough beats his keeper Andy Goram to a high ball to score an own goal and give United all 3 points in a 1-0 win over Rangers at Tannadice.

11th December

1982 - John Reilly and substitute Davie Dodds each grab two goals as United destroy Kilmarnock at Tannadice with Eamonn Bannon, Dave Narey and Ralph Milne adding to the 7-0 scoreline.

1985 - Leading 2-1 after the 1st leg at Tannadice, United crash out of the UEFA Cup after losing 3-1 against Neuchatel Xamax in Switzerland. Ian Redford scores United's goal as Kevin Gallacher makes his debut by coming on as a substitute.

1993 - An amazing afternoon at Ibrox sees United go 3-0 up in the opening 20 minutes, with goals from Dave Bowman, Paddy Connolly and Craig Brewster. The scoreline remains the same by the end of the match, although Rangers midfielder Ian Ferguson receives a red card just before the final whistle.

2004 - At 16 years, 8 months and 1 day, Greg Cameron becomes the youngest player to appear in the SPL, as he comes off the bench in a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock at Tannadice. Jim McIntyre (2) and Barry Robson are the goalscorers.

12th December

1979 - An historic night in the clubs history. United lift their first ever trophy as they beat Aberdeen 3-0 in the League Cup Final replay at Dens. Two goals from Willie Pettigrew and one from Paul Sturrock give United the silverware on a night that anyone that was there will never forget.

1984 - The return leg of the Battle of Britain sees United narrowly beaten by Manchester United in the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup. Goals by Paul Hegarty and Davie Dodds keep United in it, but a deflected shot off of Gary McGinnis gives Manchester United a 5-4 aggregate victory.

1992 - United fight back from 2 goals down to draw 2-2 with Aberdeen at Tannadice. Scott Crabbe scores his first goal for the club with a free-kick and Billy McKinlay scores the equaliser.

1999 - Joaquim Ferraz comes of the bench to score a late, late winner against Dundee at Tannadice in a 1-0 victory.

13th December

1914 - The club appear in their first ever national Cup Final, as Dundee Hibs draw 1-1 with Albion Rovers in the Qualifying Cup Final in front of a crowd of 11,000 at Tynecastle.

1958 - United are involved in their third 4-3 game of the season, this time losing out to Albion Rovers at Tannadice, with Ian Scott, Jackie Hunter and Dave Sturrock scoring for United.

1980 - Davie Dodds scores the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Airdrie at Tannadice.

1986 - Tommy Coyne moves down the road as he signs for Dundee for 75,000.

2003 - United beat Livingston 2-0 at Tannadice with Billy Dodds scoring both goals.

14th December

1935 - With United in the lead with a score of 5-1 over Brechin City, the match is abandoned due to bad light.

1974 - A young strikeforce of Andy Gray and Paul Hegarty both score twice in a 6-0 win over Morton at Cappielow, with Dave Narey also scoring and Frank Kopel netting from the penalty spot.

1985 - United draw 1-1 with Rangers at Ibrox with Davie Dodds scoring United's goal.

1996 - Andy McLaren scores from the penalty spot to give United a 1-1 draw with Hibs at Easter Road.

2000 - Alex Smith continues to rebuild the team as he signs former Morton striker Derek Lilley from Oxford United for 80,000.

15th December

1984 - Eamonn Bannon scores from the penalty spot against his former club as United beat Hearts 5-2 at Tannadice, with Paul Hegarty, Alex Taylor, Stuart Beedie and John Reilly getting the other goals.

1988 - Jim McLean signs ex-Meadowbank Thistle striker Darren Jackson from Newcastle United for 200,000.

2007 - Three second half goals give United a convincing victory at Love Street as United beat St Mirren 3-0. Strikes by David Robertson and Noel Hunt are followed by the goal that was to be voted SPL Goal of the Season - Morgaro Gomis takes the ball on a run from his own half, beats several players before laying the ball of to Willo Flood, who fires an unstoppable, swerving right-foot rocket into the far corner of the net.

16th December

1972 - Ian Mitchell scores the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

1978 - United draw 1-1 with Celtic at Parkhead with Dave Narey scoring United's goal as Iain Phillip makes his United debut after signing from Dundee.

1989 - In a rain drenched match at Tannadice, Mixu Paatelainen equalises after Mo Johnston had put Rangers ahead in a 1-1 draw.

17th December

1969 - There's a goal rush at Celtic Park, as United go down 7-2 to Celtic, with Ian Mitchell (pen) and Alan Gordon scoring United's goals.

1970 - Jerry Kerr signs Stranraer forward Jackie Copland for 10,000.

1988 - Celtic defender Lex Baillie brings down Kevin Gallacher in the box, and Mixu Paatelainen scores from the spot. Baillie's woes continue as he heads in an own goal under pressure from Paatelainen for a 2-0 win for United. Darren Jackson makes his United debut, but lasts only 4 minutes before going off with an ankle injury.

2000 - Derek Lilley picks up on a Lorenzo Amoruso mistake to score on his United debut in a 1-1 draw with Rangers at Tannadice.

18th December

1971 - Sandy and Joe White make history as they become the first twins to play in the United first team, but United lose 3-0 to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

1982 - A bitterly cold match at Cappielow sees United lose an early goal, but John Reilly equalises and Paul Sturrock scores the winner in the second half.

19th December

1914 - Collie Martin scores 5 goals for Dundee Hibs against Albion Rovers at Tannadice.

1957 - Top scorer for the previous two seasons Johnny Coyle is sold to First Division side Clyde for 8,000.

Despite only playing half of the season for United, Coyle still finished up as the club's 2nd top scorer.

1964 - Finn Dossing scores his second goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Motherwell at Fir Park.

1970 - Tommy Traynor and Morris Stevenson score in a 2-1 win over St Mirren at Tannadice.

1979 - Just 2 months after signing for United, Eamonn Bannon earns his first cap for Scotland in a 3-1 defeat against Belgium at Hampden, where John Robertson gets Scotland's goal in the European Championship Qualifier.

20th December

1980 - Ian Gibson, Willie Pettigrew and Davie Dodds score in a 3-3 draw with St Mirren at Love Street.

1986 - 1-0 down with only 10 minutes remaining, Paul Sturrock scores against Hearts at Tannadice to pull United level. Eamonn Bannon scores seconds later with a fantastic solo goal and Iain Ferguson makes it 3-1 as he lobs Hearts keeper Henry Smith from near the half-way line.

21st December

1963 - Jimmy Briggs scores from the penalty spot and Jim Irvine scores twice as United beat Hibs 3-2 at Easter Road.

1974 - Jackie Copland, George Fleming and Tommy Traynor all score against Kilmarnock at Tannadice, but United still lose 4-3.

1985 - Paul Sturrock scores the winner in a 2-1 victory over Aberdeen at Tannadice, with Eamonn Bannon also scoring from the penalty spot.

1993 - Manager Ivan Golac finally ties up the transfer on Trinidad & Tobago forward Jerren Nixon from EMC Mowtown.

22nd December

1923 - Eddie Gilfeather scores Dundee United's first ever penalty against St Johnstone at Muirton Park.

1973 - Andy Gray scores twice as United beat Dunfermline 3-2 at East End Park, with George Fleming also scoring.

1979 - Willie Pettigrew and John Holt score in the third Dundee derby of the season as United win 2-0 at Tannadice.

1984 - Richard Gough scores the only goal of the game against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

23rd December

1978 - Graeme Payne scores in a 2-1 win over Hibs at Tannadice, but it's an own goal that gives United the points.

1985 - An Eamonn Bannon penalty is enough to beat Celtic 1-0 at Tannadice.

2000 - Danny Griffin finally makes his United debut against Hearts at Tynecastle, 5 months after signing from St Johnstone. Hasney Aljofree scores in a 3-1 defeat.

25th December

1954 - Tom McGairy gives the United fans a Christmas present at Ochilview with a hat-trick against Stenhousemuir, with Ronnie Johnstone also scoring in the 4-3 cracker.

1956 - After losing 6-2 just 10 days before, United get revenge on Cowdenbeath on Christmas Day, winning 6-0 at Central Park with goals from Don Watt, Jimmy Reid (2), Maurice Milne, Dave Sturrock and Johnny Coyle.

1965 - Finn Dossing and Frank Munro both score twice in a 4-2 win over Stirling Albion on Christmas Day.

1971 - A Christmas Day match against Dunfermline at Tannadice ends 3-2 to United with goals from Jim Cameron, Alan Gordon and a Kenny Cameron penalty.

26th December

1959 - Derek Whytock scores a hat-trick on Boxing Day as United beat East Fife 6-0 at Tannadice. Dennis Gillespie (2) and Jim Irvine also score.

1970 - United beat Hibs 1-0 at Easter Road with Jackie Copland getting the only goal on Boxing Day.

1992 - United travel through to Celtic Park for a Boxing Day match against Celtic, where Duncan Ferguson scores the only goal in a 1-0 win.

1994 - Robbie Winters scores his first goal for United with an overhead kick against Kilmarnock at Tannadice. David Hannah also scores in a 2-2 draw.

27th December

1969 - United draw 2-2 with Hearts at Tynecastle with Ian Mitchell and Alan Gordon getting the goals.

1980 - Ralph Milne and Paul Sturrock both score twice as United beat Hearts 4-1 at Tannadice.

1982 - United win their sixth game in a row by beating Motherwell 5-0 at Tannadice with goals from Ralph Milne, Eamonn Bannon (pen), John Reilly, Paul Hegarty and Paul Sturrock.

1983 - In a tough match in the rain at Parkhead, Eamonn Bannon scores the equaliser from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw with Celtic.

1996 - After falling out of favour with manager Tommy McLean, David Hannah moves on to Celtic for 650,000.

28th December

1963 - Ian Mitchell scores a hat-trick against St Mirren at Tannadice, and Dennis Gillespie, Jim Irvine and Jim McManus also score in a 6-2 win.

1974 - Andy Gray scores his 19th goal of the season in a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

1996 - Kjell Olofsson scores the only goal in a 1-0 win over Tommy McLean's former team Raith Rovers at Starks Park.

29th December

1973 - Andy Gray scores 4 goals against Dumbarton at Tannadice, with Frank Kopel and Tommy Traynor also scoring in a 6-0 win.

1984 Richard Gough scores the winner against Celtic at Parkhead, with substitute Paul Sturrock also scoring in a 2-1 victory.

2007 - In the battle for third place in the SPL, goals from David Robertson and Noel Hunt (2) see United vainly attempt to fight their way back into the match as United go down 5-3 to Motherwell at Fir Park. Unfortunately, the match will be remembered for the sudden death of Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnell, who collapsed on the pitch in the second half.

30th December

1967 - Ian Scott and Ian Mitchell both score hat-tricks in a 9-0 victory over Stirling Albion at Tannadice, with Finn Seemann, Mogens Berg and a Corrigan own goal adding to the scoreline.

1980 - Davie Dodds scores against Aberdeen in a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

1989 - Darren Jackson scores on a freezing cold night at Dens in a 1-1 draw with Dundee.

2002 - New Chairman Eddie Thompson and manager Paul Hegarty finalise the deal to bring Billy Dodds back to Tannadice, with United striker Steven Thompson heading to Ibrox as part of the deal.

31st December

1966 - Goals from Finn Dossing, Ian Mitchell and Dennis Gillespie give United a shock 3-2 win over Celtic at Tannadice.
