1967 - Finn Seemann scored twice as United beat Airdrie 3-1 at Tannadice, with Orjan Persson opening the scoring for United.
1987 - The Quarter Finals of the UEFA Cup saw Spanish giants Barcelona come to Tannadice. The Catalonian side had a strong British contingent with Terry Venables as manager and Gary Lineker and Mark Hughes in the team, but it was United youngster Kevin Gallacher who grabbed the headlines, scoring the only goal of the match with a 4th minute cross-come-shot to give United a well earned lead for the 2nd leg in Spain.
2006 - At 16 years, 11 months and 4 days, David Goodwillie became the youngest player to score in the SPL as he grabbed a consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat to Hibs at Easter Road.

1984 - Derek Stark scored first with an important away goal for United in Austria in the Quarter Finals of the European Cup, but United lost the 1st leg against Rapid Vienna 2-1.
2011 - United earn a comfortable 3-1 SPL win at Tannadice against Aberdeen under the lights. Barry Douglas, Craig Conway and Danny Swanson got the goals.
1962 - Manager Jerry Kerr signed right back Tommy Millar from Colchester City. Millar became a regular in the United side throughout the 60's, rarely missing a match over the following 5 seasons, and played in all four of United's first matches in Europe against Barcelona and Juventus.

1997 - After a first half with no goals, Andy McLaren scored twice against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup quarter final tie at Tannadice, and Robbie Winters and Kjell Olofsson added to the 4-1 win.
1998 - Two goals form Kjell Olofsson pushed Celtic all the way in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final tie at Tannadice, but a last minute Erik Pedersen own goal took Celtic through 3-2.

After dominating the first half Noel Hunt scrambled the ball into the net to give United a 1-0 lead, and United continued to outplay the Glasgow side in the second half. Just as it looked like United would hold on for a memorable victory, Rangers were gifted a goal when Boyd picked up a short pass-back to level with less than five minutes to go. United regained the lead in the first half of extra-time with a great goal from Mark De Vries, yet Ranger leveled again with 5 minutes to go to take the match to penalties, where United lost 3-2 in the shoot-out.
2011 - After a run of postponed matches, United played their third successive home match in six days when they faced Hearts at Tannadice. Former United Captain Andy Webster made his first appearance at Tannadice since lifting the Scottish Cup the previous May, now in the maroon and white of Hearts, however it was United youngster Johnny Russell who grabbed the headlines with two goals - a beautifully floated header on 82 minutes and an injury time two yard smash made it 2-0 to United.
1945 - United beat East Fife 3-1 in a North Eastern League match as the Second World War drew to a close.
1956 - United defeated Montrose 6-3 at Tannadice with goals from Johnny Coyle (2), Jim Coyle, Jimmy Reid, Dave Sturrock and a Ramsay own goal.

1965 - In a match in the sleet and snow at Dens Park, Orjan Persson and Dennis Gillespie gave United a 2-1 lead just after half-time, but Kenny Cameron equalised for Dundee. Finn Dossing and Orjan Persson scored to give United a 4-2 victory for their third League win in a row. Dossing's goal was his 21st goal in the 3 months since he had joined United and is also the 13th consecutive match in which he has scored.
1979 - United's title hopes received a major blow as the side lost 3-1 to Morton at Cappielow, where Davie Dodds scored for United.
1987 - After Iain Ferguson's last minute penalty in the first game at Tannadice had kept United in the competition, goalkeeper Alan Main saved a penalty on his United debut at Station Park in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final replay against Forfar Athletic. Goals from John Holt and Iain Ferguson took United through to a Semi Final against Dundee at Tynecastle Park.
1993 - Duncan Ferguson impressed many in his 4th cap for Scotland as they took on Germany in an International Friendly at Ibrox Stadium. Dave Bowman and Jim McInally also played as Scotland lost 1-0.
2004 - Jason Scotland scored his first goal for United to put the club 1-0 up at the City Stadium, but Livingston came back to lead 2-1 in the second half. With just 10 minutes to go, Collin Samuel equaliseds for United, and Jim McIntyre scored the winner for an important 3-2 win which kept United in the hunt for a top six spot before the split.
2010 - After fighting back against the odds at Ibrox in the first match of this Scottish Cup Quarter Final tie, United dominated the replay at a packed Tannadice against treble chasing Rangers. In the second half, a David Goodwillie goal was ruled offside and at 0-0 the game appeared to be heading for extra time. But in the 89th minute, David Robertson scrambled the ball home to make it 1-0 as the stadium errupted for a famous victory and a Semi Final against Raith Rovers.

1999 - Winger Andy McLaren left Tannadice for Reading for £150,000 after nearly 10 years with United, and midfielder Lars Zetterlund returneds to Swedish club Orebro.

1989 - After United's great come back at Ibrox in the first game, United lost 1-0 to an Ally McCoist tap in at Tannadice to go out of the Scottish Cup at the Quarter Final stage.
2002 - United striker Steven Thompson made his Scotland debut in a 5-0 defeat against France as Berti Vogts tried out new blood for the national team.
2004 - Jason Scotland came off the bench to pounce on a Gordon Marshall error and gave United a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Tannadice. The result put United into 5th place in the League with just three matches to go before the split.
2010 -Entering the final third of the season in third place in the SPL and facing back to back matches against their nearest rivals Motherwell and Hibs, things looked bad when Paul Dixon was sent off early on against Motherwell at Tannadice. But goals from David Goodwillie, Prince Buaben and Danny Swanson give 10 men United a comfortable 3-0 victory.
1970 - United beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Tannadice with goals from Ian Mitchell and Kenny Cameron as United battled for a European qualifying spot.
1981 - United made sure of finishing 5th at least and European qualification as Paul Sturrock and Billy Kirkwood both score twiced in a 4-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle.
1984 - United went out of the Scottish Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen at Tannadice in the Quarter Final Replay, with Mark McGhee scoring the winner for the Dons.
1987 - A Bobby Glennie own goal gave United a 1-1 draw with Dundee at Tannadice, after a busy month with tough Cup games against Barcelona and Forfar Athletic.
1988 - After a 0-0 draw at Dens and a 2-2 draw at Tannadice, the Scottish Cup Quarter Final tie against Dundee went to a 2nd Replay, where United won 3-0 with goals from Ian Redford (pen), Iain Ferguson and Joe McLeod, and Dundee's Stuart Rafferty was sent off in the dying minutes.
1992 - Mixu Paatelainen was transferred to Aberdeen for £400,000 after nearly 5 years at Tannadice.
1995 - Ex-United player Billy Kirkwood left his post as coach with Rangers to take up the manager's position at Tannadice, two weeks after the departure of Ivan Golac. Kirkwood had only seven games until the end of the season to try to steer United away from the relegation battle.
1969 - Ian Mitchell and Kenny Cameron (pen) scored in a 2-2 draw with Falkirk at Brockville, with Cameron's goal being his 33rd goal of the season.
1986 - Richard Gough scored the only goal of the game in the fourth Dundee derby of the season, as United beat Dundee 1-0 at Dens Park to go unbeaten against Dundee for the season, without even conceding a goal.
1966 - United beat St Johnstone 2-1 at Muirton Park with goals from Finn Dossing and Lennart Wing as United pushed to qualify for Europe for the first time.
1974 - A Doug Smith penalty and a goal from Andy Gray gave United a 2-1 win over Ayr United at Tannadice, where ex-Dundee player Doug Houston made his debut after signing from Rangers for £10,000.
1983 - Richard Gough earned his first full International cap as Scotland draw 2-2 with Switzerland in a European Championship qualifier match at Hampden, where John Wark and Charlie Nicholas scored the goals.
1988 - Dave Bowman scored his first goal for United as United beat St Mirren 5-1 at Tannadice. Hamish French and Iain Ferguson grabbed a goal each and winger Alan Irvine also scored twice.
2011 - After the classic cup tie at Tannadice where United drew 2-2 with Motherwell, it was a crushing night at Fir Park as holders United were humbled 3-0 by Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Replay, going out in front of an impressive away travelling Arab support.
1954 - A poor season finished as United beat Albion Rovers 6-2 at Tannadice. Peter McKay took his season's goal tally to 27 with a hat-trick, his last goals for United before heading south to play in the English League, which also gave him the record of scoring the most League goals for the club with 158. George Grant (2) and George Cruickshank also scored as United finished second bottom of the table, only avoiding the bottom spot by goal difference.
1969 - Manager Jerry Kerr signed Alan Gordon from Hearts for £8,000 and he made his debut later that day as United beat Hibernian 3-0 at Tannadice with goals from Davie Hogg (2) and Kenny Cameron.
1979 - After beating Motherwell 4-0 at the start of the month at Fir Park, Derek Addison scored twice in a 2-1 win over the Lanarkshire club at Tannadice.
2010 - After beating Motherwell 3-0 just days before, United then faced their other rivals for the 3rd place spot in the SPL, Hibernian. Going 1-0 down after just 40 seconds, United then took control and equalised with a penalty from Jon Daly. Danny Swanson then scored the goal of the season with a curling shot from the corner of the box to put United in front, and David Goodwillie and Fran Sandaza added to the goals before Hibs got a consolation goal in the last minute in a memorable 4-2 win to put United in the driving seat for a European place.
